Background

This course is designed to provide an opportunity for student teachers pursuing a Degree in primary school teaching to establish their understanding of research through critical exploration of various research approaches. The course introduces the student teachers to elements of the research process within quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches. Additionally, students are expected to use these theoretical underpinnings to begin to critically review literature relevant to their study area and determine how to write a research proposal.

Rationale

Education Research is very important to student teachers if they are to make their own selfless contributions to education in Zambia. Therefore, students will acquire fundamental skills, key concepts, skills, values, principles and theories of practical educational research in order to be competent teachers in primary school education. Additionally, the course will further help students to come up with an educational research proposal. This course is a pre-requisite to Educational Report Writing 4044.
